During the International
E-Waste Day 2020, the team of InnoWEEE project promoted two events: the first one
was in Bologna for a group of students from Liceo Sabin, the second one was in Milan
for the inhabitants of the Merezzate + quarter.
The issue is more and more
urgent: in fact, 53.8 million tons of WEEE are produced in the world and only
17.4% is properly recycled.
In Bologna, some classes of
Liceo Scientifico Sabin are involved in an educational program, in
collaboration with Legambiente and HERA. The first meeting, held during the
e-waste day’s week and organized by ERION, had the aim of making students more
aware of the issue of electronic waste, of the importance of the correct management
and disposal of WEEE and about the negative impacts that WEEE has on the climate
and the environment.
In the subsequent meetings,
which will be by in November, Legambiente will talk about the possibilities of
reusing still functioning electrical and electronic equipment and will present ECCO
project (Circular Community Economies for environmental, social and cultural
regeneration), while ENEA will address the main concepts of the circular
economy, also through the presentation of some case studies.
In addition, for the entire
duration of educational program, a special bin was placed outside the high
school to encourage students to collect their non-working devices, so they can
be directed to the correct recovery chains.
Moreover, two other projects about
WEEE were also presented to the students: # WEEE4Future (funded by Raw
Materials-KIC), complementary to InnoWEEE, which stimulated children to become
heroes of climate by encouraging them to collect WEEE in the correct way and to
disseminate good practices, and BELT (H2020 project), relating to the new
energy labeling which will come into force from March next year.
The
InnoWEEE project was also illustrated during the virtual meeting entitled
"E-waste day: Electronic waste and their correct disposal" organized in
Milan by Erion as part of the Merezzate + project (funded by KIC Climate) and
with the participation of the Social Housing Foundation.
