Three different pilot actions,
in three different locations
WEEE is currently considered to be one of the fastest growing waste streams, growing at 3-5 % per year in European Union and contain many different materials that have environmental impacts and health risks if treated inadequately. On the other hand, the reuse of EEE and the recycling of WEEE offer substantial opportunities in terms of extension of End of Life (EoL) of appliances and making secondary raw materials available on the market .
It has been demonstrated that the critical points of the WEEE chain are the recovery of the waste from citizens and the lack of traceability along the whole data flow. Therefore, to fill the gap within the WEEE collection mechanism while facing those crucial elements, the InnoWEEE project promotes a demonstration action through the development of a series of pilot activities, by applying behavioral change methodologies and tools, smart solutions and data analytics platform.
Actually, three different pilot demonstration actions have been arranged, in three different geographical location and with different services, with the final goal of increasing the quantity of refurbished/reused and recovered/recycled equipment by rising the public awareness about the presented issues through clear and detailed information initiatives. The European dimension of the WEEE related problems can easily explain the need of gathering data from far different social and demographic realities: the analysis of different socio-economic contests and the evaluation of the results will give to InnoWEEE partnership the chance of creating a model to be extended and replicated also beyond the three pilot areas considered, leveraging on possible future projects.
