The fifth edition of the “Circular Materials
Conference” was held on the 21st-22nd April 2021 at
the Chalmers Conference Centre in Gothenburg, Sweden. Industrial, scientific
and commercial progress in the circular use of materials are the topics
discussed, through in-depth discussions, debates, seminars and face-to-face
meetings.
The conference has brought together leaders from industry and
academia to explore innovative circular economy solutions, new business
models and new visions of a world where no material is wasted,
especially at the time when we face the challenge of transitioning to
circularity for the future of our planet. In particular, the focus this year has
been on new partnerships and technologies that can accelerate the transition,
bringing to a more caring and truly sustainable economy for all.
Erion, during its speech, addressed the problem
of the shortcomings of WEEE management systems. In fact, only about 35% of
household WEEE in Europe is collected through official systems. A similar
problem arises in the context of the professional WEEE system. The tool which
can help improve the amount of WEEE correctly managed is identified in traceability
solutions. This was the occasion to present the solutions developed by the InnoWEEE
project which, with the aim of improving the management of WEEE, tested the
effectiveness of innovative technologies and approaches to traceability and
collection, combining digital technologies and fieldwork.
